1. How is window film applied?
Your window is cleaned thoroughly on the inside. The film is cut to the size of the window pane it's being applied to then custom fit to the window. Think of window film like it's wallpaper on glass. The film has an adhesive on one side that is protected by a clear plastic sheeting. The plastic is removed, the adhesive is activated with a safe cleaning solution and is then applied to your window. We squeegee out most of the water that is in between the film and glass, any left over will dry by itself with a little time. Depending on the product, it may take up to 60 days for the film to fully cure. Small water spots will diminish and eventually disappear.
2. What is window film made of?
Window film products are transparent layers of high quality polyester that are laminated and coated using special adhesives, ultraviolet (UV) inhibitors and protective scratch resistant coatings.
3. What are the benefits of window film?
Increased fade protection, reduced interior heat, reduced utility costs, reduced glare, improved comfort, increased privacy, extended air conditioning equipment life and added protection from accidents, storms, earthquakes and burglars.
4. Will window film really stop fading of fabrics?
There are six factors affecting fabric fading:
Ultraviolet light - 40% Visible light - 25% Heat - 25% Chemical vapors, including ozone Age of fabric Dye fastness
Our films reject up to 99% of solar ultraviolet light and can reflect up to 83% of the total solar energy depending upon which film is being used on the window. No window film can totally eliminate fading. It can, however, offer maximum protection from fading.
5. Where is window film applied?
All films, except for anti-graffiti films, are applied on the interior surface of the glass. Anti-graffiti films are applied to the exterior of the glass to protect the glass from damage through accidental or malicious behavior. If an incident should occur the film saves you from having to replace the damaged window glass.
6. Does window film cause seal failure when applied to insulated glass?
No, window films do not cause seal failure. Risk of seal failure is greatly determined by the quality of workmanship and the quality of materials that went into building the units.
7. Will the film peel or bubble?
Our window films should last for years without bubbles, cracks, peeling, de-laminating fading or discoloring. It is professionally applied and the installer takes great care to see that it has been properly installed. If for any reason it does have a problem we will replace the film for free within the first year.
8. How do I clean my window film?
After 30 days you may clean window films using normal household cleaning solutions (ie; Windex and a soft, lint-free cloth or towel. You may also use a squeegee to clean the film. A mixture of 1 tsp. dish soap to 1 quart of water is also a good way to clean your windows. Do not use straight ammonia or any kind of abrasive on the window film.
9. We have low E glass, can solar film be used on them?
There are two basic types of low E glass. One of these is a conductive coating put on glass as it is being made. It gives some heat loss reduction, but does little to reduce heat gain into a building. The second type is a more complex system of multiple layers of metals and conductive coatings deposited on glass after it has been made. This type of low E glass gives heat reductions of 30% to 50% in addition to reducing heat loss. Obviously there will be more heat gain reduction using film on the first type of low E glass and you should question your glass company or the window manufacturer to determine what type you have.
